Feedback welcome in the IOF Data Standards project
Posted on | December 8, 2011 | Category: News
The IOF standard for information exchange (the “IOF Data Standards”) is currently being revised. A preliminary draft of the new standard has been published, and is open for review. Your input is needed.
The standard defines the formats used for data exchanged among the IT systems used when organising events, such as online entry systems, event administration and speaker software, and course planning software. By using the standard formats, it is ensured that IT systems from different vendors can co-operate.
The standard was originally published in 2002, and an update has long been due. During the first phase of the revision, input for proposed updates has been collected, and has been synthesised into the current draft.
The draft version, including some documentation, has been published as a XML schema file (xsd file). It can be found at http://code.google.com/p/iofdatastandard/source/browse/trunk/IOF.xsd.
Some commented example files have also been published. See http://code.google.com/p/iofdatastandard/source/browse/trunk/Examples. A key to wide usage of the standard is to provide real-world examples, and we hope that we can add more example files later on.
We would be happy to receive your feedback on this draft as soon as possible, and at latest end of February 2012. We hope to have a final standard published soon after this deadline.
Comments should be entered in the “Issues” forum at the Google Code site.
