European SkiO Championships: Sweden wins mixed sprint relay
Posted on | January 22, 2015 | Category: News

The Swedish teams were the fastest in the mixed sprint relay today, with Sweden 1 and 2 finishing 13 seconds apart. The silver and bronze medals went to Bulgaria and Norway.
The start was done by the women. Antoniya Grigorova-Burgova, Bulgaria 1, was the fastest on the first leg. The eventual winning team with Josefine Engström was already 46 seconds behind due to longer forking, and handed over in 10th position. But Engström and Erik Rost caught up and went in front during the fourth leg. In the finish they had a lead of 13 seconds over their team-mates Tove Alexandersson and Andreas Holmberg. For Rost (gold in Long Distance) and Engström (bronze in Long Distance) it was the second medal in this week.
Because the second Swedish team does not count for the championships, Bulgaria with Antoniya Grigorova-Burgova and Stanimir Belomazhev won silver, just as they did one year ago at ESOC in Russia. Two seconds after Bulgaria, Hans Jørgen Kvåle and Audhild Bakken Rognstad get the bronze medal for Norway. Team Norway 2 with Anna Ulvensoen and Jørgen Madslien, which was for a long time in the lead, was not ranked at the end due to a mis-punch at the first control of the last leg.
