Estonia appointed organiser of World Orienteering Championships 2017

World Orienteering Championships 2017 have been awarded to Estonia. This is the first time ever Estonia organises World Orienteering Championships.
The IOF Council discussed the application from Estonia as well as the recommendations from the Foot Orienteering Commission and the IOF Sports Director, and unanimously decided to appoint Estonia organiser of the Championships. IOF Senior Vice President Leho Haldna (EST) was not present during the discussion and desicion making.
The organisers comment: “The WOC 2017 in South Estonia will be realization of a long-time dream of Estonian orienteering community. It is planned that the WOC will be the highlight of events and activities making orienteering visible and more popular in Estonia and also establish it as an attractive TV sport in Estonian media.”
The event centre will be Otepää cross-country skiing centre 45 km from Tartu.
