Daniel Hubmann started first and finished first. The Swiss is back in track again.
Daniel Hubmann was unbeatable at World Cup event 3 in Norway – a race that ended with a big Swiss celebration. There were a total of five Swiss orienteers among the six best and Olav Lundanes from Norway on fourth place was the only non-Swiss.
For the winner, Hubmann, this was his first victory this year – not just in World Cup but in other races too. Until now has been challenged with an injury: he had Achilles surgery just after the World Cup final last year. “I thought I would have felt it for three – four months, but it took eight months before the pain was totally gone. This was just a couple of weeks ago”, he says. “And it is great to be back and just run without feeling any pain”, he continues.
During the last months Daniel has been doing very little running. He substituted some of the training with cycling and water running. In the tough terrain of Nesodden he showed that his level of performance is incredibly good, however. “It isn’t necessary to run two times a day”, he smiles.
It was an incredible Swiss day with five Swiss runners out of the six best. From left: Matthias Merz, Daniel Hubmann, Fabian Hertner, Olav Lundanes, Matthias Müller and Matthias Kyburz.
