Czech and Italian victories in first MTBO World Cup race

Martina Tichovska, Czech Republic and Luca Dallavalle, Italy, were the top athletes in the Middle Distance World Cup race at Dietmanns, Austria today. Both won by over half a minute.
In the women’s race, Emily Benham GBR and Gaelle Barlet FRA renewed their always close competition with Benham ending the faster by 2 seconds, but both were well beaten by Tichovska, who completed the 14.5 km course in hilly terrain in 52-29, a lead of 46 seconds. The experienced Marika Hara FIN and Olga Vinogradova RUS came fourth and fifth.
Anton Foliforov, Russia, the best male rider overall in 2016, had a bad start to his 2017 campaign today, being disqualified in this first race. Luca Dalavalle, with IOF World Ranking number 5, was 32 seconds faster than Baptiste Fuchs FRA on the 20.4 km course, with Krystof Bogar CZE a further 7 seconds slower.
Tomorrow the Sprint takes place in the Austrian town of Zwettl.
