The CISM World Military Orienteering Championships take place in Eksjö, Sweden. The two individual distances, middle and long, have gathered an impressive startfield of 193 men and 58 women.
Some of the participants come from countries less known for orienteers, such as Lebanon, United Arab Emirates, and Venezuela. However, the winners are more than well-known: Men’s middle distance competition was won by Matthias Kyburz (SUI) before Lauri Sild (EST) and Matthias Merz (SUI), and women’s by Tatiana Ryabkina (RUS) before Ausrine Kutkaite (LTU) and Yulia Novikova (RUS).
Long distance competition gave even more success to Estonia when Lauri’s brother Timo won the race just before Lauri. Frederic Tranchand (FRA) finished third. In the women’s class Tatiana Ryabkina was unbeatable on this distance as well, and took a clear victory before Yulia Novikova and Ausrine Kutkaite.
The Military Championships conclude with relay on Saturday.
