Tove Alexandersson, Sweden ran a near-perfect race in difficult terrain on the Long Distance today, with only Sprint champion Maj Alm, Denmark able to come anywhere near challenging her time.

The first race in the European Youth Championships, the Sprint, resulted in medals for 8 different nations including a Gold for Jakub Dekret from the host nation, Slovakia in class M18.

After today’s qualification races, 26 nations have at least one athlete in the Sprint Finals in Tartu, Estonia tomorrow. 8 nations have all their athletes through to the Final.

Four hundred athletes representing thirty-five nations are now arriving in Banská Bystrica, Slovakia for the European Youth Orienteering Championships (EYOC). There are three races: a Sprint, a Long Distance and a Relay.

Emily Benham, Great Britain took her second win of the round today in convincing style, finishing the fastest by almost 4 minutes. The Czech Republic team has achieved a victory in each of the three races, this time through Vojtech Ludvik.

The women’s 1-2 was the reverse of yesterday, with Emily Benham, Great Britain in front of Martina Tichovska, Czech Republic by 19 seconds. The men’s race featured a convincing victory for the Czech rider Krystof Bogar.
