Russia was the most dominant nation in Round 1 of the SkiO World Cup, their best athlete being Andrey Lamov who won all three races.

Winners of today’s Long Distance race were favourites Tove Alexandersson, Sweden and Andrey Lamov, Russia. Both were able to ski into the finish under no pressure.

Andrey Lamov, Russia took his second victory in Ylläs, Finland today, winning the Middle Distance race by 25 seconds. Tove Alexandersson, Sweden was the women’s winner by 34 seconds.

The new SkiO season begins in Ylläs, Finland this weekend with three races for the Individual World Cup 2017-2018. There will be three rounds in all, the second and third rounds also including Team World Cup competitions.

The final European Cup event of the 2017 TrailO season took place in Slovakia last weekend. In an exciting event, the 26-year-old Swedish athlete Marit Wiksell won the TempO competition and secured the overall crown.

Sweden demonstrated strength in depth today, with its second team ending victorious after the first team was disqualified. That makes 5 wins out of 7 for Sweden in this year’s Relay World Cup.

The favourites today were the winners, on the day and overall. Tove Alexandersson and Matthias Kyburz overcame all opposition in dominant style, with leading times almost throughout in today’s Middle race.
