Russia enjoyed a convincing victory in the first medal race in this year’s championships being held at Hamar and Løten, Norway. Finland finished in second place, 45 seconds down on the winners, and Sweden took the bronze medals.

At the end of two exciting relay races in which the lead changed several times, the gold medals in the European SkiO Championships Relay went to Norway’s men and Sweden’s women. The women’s race was decided in a frantic sprint finish, to the delight of the watching crowd.

Ski orienteers aged 35 and upwards took part this week in the World Masters Ski Orienteering Championships, held in conjunction with the European Ski Orienteering Championships in Lenzerheide, Switzerland. Kyösti Jäppinen from Finland was the oldest gold medal winner, competing in the class for men aged 85 and older.
