28/05/2016 || European TrailO Championships, PreO competition: Gold medals for Gerdtman and Jansson ||News||
Overnight leaders Stig Gerdtman (Open) and Ola Jansson (Paralympic), both SWE, retained their form on the second day of competition to take the gold medals. The two placed second at the half-way stage, Jari Turto FIN and Vladyslav Vovk UKR fell back today, with Vovk taking bronze and Turto out of the medals.

The European Championships ended with an incredibly tight Relay competition. The last-leg runners were not at all certain what was happening.

Finland won the women’s relay, courtesy of an exceptional last-leg run by Merja Rantanen. The silver medals went to Sweden and the bronze to Russia.

Switzerland showed their strength in depth in the men’s relay today, their on paper second team taking the gold medals and the first team finishing fifth. Norway and the Czech Republic are the men’s silver and bronze medallists after a tight-fought race.

Matthias Kyburz has fulfilled his big goal in the Czech Republic. And Tove Alexandersson didn’t take a step without knowing where she was.

Just 2 of the 127 participants in the PreO competition solved all 23 problems correctly today, and both made mistakes at the timed controls. Stig Gerdtman and Ole Jansson, Sweden lead the Open and the Paralympic classes respectively at the half-way point.

Tove Alexandersson, Sweden and Matthias Kyburz, Switzerland both won their second individual gold medal of the Championships in the Middle Distance Final at Černá Voda, Czech Republic today. Alexandersson put on an impressive display of high-speed orienteering, winning by 2.13 and the fastest throughout. Kyburz also enjoyed a comfortable victory – by 34 seconds.

26/05/2016 || EOC Middle Qualification: Up and down day for Switzerland ||Arena, News||
Switzerland had two victories and two second-placings in the Middle Distance qualification heats today, with 5 more athletes qualifying comfortably for the final – but 3 of their athletes ended below the cut-off line – including European Long Distance Champion Daniel Hubmann.
