Fifty seconds was the winning margin for the very experienced Swedish athlete Helena Jansson in today’s World Cup Middle race. She put in a near-flawless performance in technical terrain and showed that she is again in excellent physical form. Closest challenger was Natalia Gemperle, Russia.

25/05/2017 || World Cup Sprint Final: tight victory for Yannick Michiels, clear one for Maja Alm ||Arena, News||
Yannick Michiels, Belgium took a close victory by just 2 seconds today over Matthias Kyburz, Switzerland in the Sprint Final – a first-ever World Cup win for Belgium. Maja Alm, Denmark won by 10 seconds ahead of Tove Alexandersson, a better route choice in the middle of the race proving decisive.

A very close race on last leg between Helena Jansson, Sweden and Maja Alm, Denmark ended with a 1-second win for Jansson, and with Alm disqualified through mispunching. Second place went to Switzerland, 13 seconds down and third to Great Britain, 1 minute further down.

The day we have all been waiting for is here. On Wednesday 24 May, the World Cup kicks off in Finland! We will be treated to an exciting Sprint Relay, followed by a Sprint, a Middle Distance and finally a Long Distance to round things off. Make sure you don’t miss any action!

The new World Cup round begins on World Orienteering Day, 24th May with a Sprint Relay in the very centre of the Finnish city Turku. The round continues with a brand-new concept of three individual competitions, designed so that the first to finish in the last of these races is overall winner of Round 1.

The 24th of May is the IOF’s World Orienteering Day, or WOD. World Orienteering Day was a great success in 2016, but this does not automatically mean success in 2017. We, the IOF, National Federations, clubs and our enthusiasts have to work together in order to archive our common goal, 350 000 participants in 2017 and to reach 500 000 participants in 2018.
