Doris Kudre took Estonia’s first ever gold at the European Championships. The success is based on spending a long time with map and skis. “My family has been ski orienteering for a long time. I started with it four years ago. Now I am in my fifth season”, she smiles. Estonia hasn’t previously won a gold medal in the youth championships.
There was also success for the Baltic Country with another Kudre. Daisy Kudre got silver in the Junior World Championships, and this medal was the first individual medal for Estonia in a junior class at a ski orienteering championships.
The gold winner is from the southern part of Estonia and of course had a very good race in the tricky terrain. “But I was not thinking about gold. It’s unbelievable”, the 15-year-old athlete smiles.
