Edgars Bertuks is next year heading for the goal he didn’t manage to reach this year. But before that, something big is coming up for the Latvian.
Edgars finished the World Cup as number 41 totally, but he had not taken part in all the races. Points he only got from the last four races. At the World Orienteering Championships his best performance was a bronze medal on the long distance, but he isn’t satisfied with that: “I made not-so-smart mistakes”, he says.
The goal for the coming year is clear for the middle distance World Champion 2012. The Latvian will fight for gold in Italy and there is also one distance he will put a lof of energy in: “When I got bronze on the long distance in Switzerland two years ago I didn’t have the strength to win the long distance, but I had that this year. Now I am very eager to make it next year”, Edgars smiles.
The 28-year-old athlete is working hard towards the coming games, but there is also one really big occasion coming up before them. Edgars and his wife Kristine will soon become parents. “The baby is due in December”, Edgars tells.
