Barbro Rönnberg, Secretary General of the International Orienteering Federation, has announced that she intends to retire from her post at the end of 2014. Barbro has been the Federation’s Secretary General for the past 18 years and during part of that time she has also served as Secretary General for ARISF, the Association of Recognised International Sports Federations. “I have loved my job, but I feel that now is the right time for me to leave”, Barbro Rönnberg says.
Speaking after the announcement, Brian Porteous, the IOF President said “Barbro Rönnberg has been an outstanding servant to the world-wide sport of orienteering. During her period of service we have grown to be a truly global sport with major Olympic ambitions and Barbro has made a very significant contribution to that journey. In Barbro we could not have had a more committed and hard working Secretary General and her skills and talents have been recognised widely throughout the whole international sports movement. Everyone in our sport will wish Barbro well and we thank her for all she has done for orienteering. She will be greatly missed by all of us.”
The IOF will start the process for the recruitment of a new Secretary General shortly.
