Andrey Grigoryev and Polina Malchikova are rejoicing their victory in the first ever World Championships Mixed relay. They both consider this new relay format very important for the future of the sport. “Spectators could see the runners in the stadium several times and also follow the course of the competition from the big screen. They could understand the format”, says Andrey.
Andrey and Polina have had a long Championships week in Tänndalen but Alexander Bliznevskiy, the head coach of the Russian team, does not regard it as a problem. “Andrey either skies, runs or roller skates a total of 9000 kilometres a year – Polina 7000 kilometres. They are ready for tough programs.”
Both Andrey and Polina will be representing Russia again on Saturday at the Long distance race. Polina is so far the only ski orienteer with two gold medals from these Championships.
