The World Games Middle distance competitions were held in Trzebnica, Poland today. Matthias Kyburz, Switzerland, took his fourth World Games gold and Helena Jansson, Sweden, won what turned out to be a tight women’s race.

The men’s race was tight and Jerker Lysell won with a margin of two seconds. The Swede really enjoy The World Games: “I think it is a good way to make orienteering global”. Maja Alm is definitely the Sprint Queen of orienteering. She has won the sprint at the World Orienteering Championships three years in a row. Now she is also a World Games champion in sprint. Maja Alm, Denmark had an outstanding victory, with a winning margin of 33 seconds, in the Sprint race in the old town quarter of Wroclaw today. Jerker Lysell, Sweden won the men’s race by 2 seconds.

The World Games, the highest profile event for sports not in the Olympic Games, are now under way in Wroclaw, Poland. Three orienteering races are in the programme: a Sprint, a Middle Distance and a Sprint Relay. Follow the competitions at LIVE Orienteering.

The promotion and relegation based on the results at the Nokian Tyres World Orienteering Championships have been made. Most notable are Ukrainian men’s and Latvian women’s promotion from Division 2 to Division 1.
