Barbro Kvåle had a tough fight with the Finn Marjut Turunen at the end of the last leg, but she was the strongest in the final spurt for the line.

Russia’s second teams were victorious in both women’s and men’s relays, the final races in the championships. Not that the team members were unknown names; Russia has strength in depth and this was more than amply proved today.

Marte Reenaas, Norway and Erik Rost, Sweden are the European Champions in middle distance after today’s exciting mass-start races. Expert course planning through fast terrain with many tracks ensured that the pressure of the race was maintained right through to the end, with several very close sprint finishes.
