The Russian athlete Tatyana Kozlova followed up her victory in the Long race two days ago by winning the individual Sprint today with an impressive margin of 26 seconds. Bulgaria’s Stanimir Belomazhev, leader in the IOF SkiO World Rankings, enjoyed a 1-second victory in the men’s race.

Today’s long distance race with three loops after a mass start ended with victories for Tatyana Kozlova of Russia, silver medallist at this distance at the last World SkiO Championships, and Peter Arnesson, Sweden who just missed a medal in yesterday’s Middle race.

Gold medals went to Russian and Norwegian athletes in today’s Middle distance race. Yuliya Tarasenko and Hans Jørgen Kvåle were the victorious athletes at the end of two hard-fought races.

In the opening event of the Championships the Russian team of Anastasia Kravchenko and Kiril Veselov led from start to finish and took the gold medals in convincing fashion. But there were many changes of position behind them in this 6-leg relay, with an intense stadium atmosphere created by the very short courses with regular changeover.

The orienteering spotlight is turned towards Latvia for the coming week, with the town of Madona in eastern Latvia hosting the five races that make up the European Ski Orienteering Championships (ESOC). Also being held at the same venue next week are the Junior World, World Masters and European Youth Ski Orienteering Championships.

The Guidelines for World Masters Orienteering Championships have been reviewed and the 2013 edition is now available on the IOF website.
07/02/2013 || IOF Council proposes a new division system to decide qualification for World Orienteering Championships ||News||
Following the 2012 IOF General Assembly’s decision to remove the qualification races for the Middle and Long finals of the World Orienteering Championships 2014 and onwards, the IOF Council has now presented its proposal for how to handle the question of how many runners a nation can have on the starting line.

The IOF has decided to extend the deadlines for the following applications: World Trail Orienteering Championships 2015, MTB Orienteering World Cup 2015, World Masters Ski Orienteering Championships 2015, European Ski Orienteering Championships 2015.
