Agenda 2020 suits orienteering
Posted on | November 19, 2014 | Category: News
International Olympic Committee (IOC) President Thomas Bach revealed yesterday the 40 proposals that make up Olympic Agenda 2020, a strategic roadmap for the future of the Olympic Movement, which will be discussed and voted on by the full IOC membership at the 127th IOC Session 8-9 December 2014 in Monaco.
President Bach called the 20+20 proposals “the culmination of a year of open, transparent and widespread debate and discussion, which had already begun in mid-2013”, and added: “These 40 recommendations are like pieces of a jigsaw puzzle. When you put them together, a picture emerges that shows the IOC safeguarding the uniqueness of the Olympic Games and strengthening sport in society.”
Some of the key elements for orienteering addressed by the recommendations are:
- It will be possible to introduce additional sports at specific Olympic Games to maximise the reach and exposure of the Games in the country.
- The IOC will work in close cooperation with the International World Games Association and the International Masters Games Association.
- The programme of the Games will be event-based, not sport-based.
