A historic victory

When Lars Hol Moholdt won the Long Distance there was much more interest in the success than there normally is for a gold in ski orienteering.
The Norwegian has been going hard for winning a gold for a long time, and on the Long Distance on home ground he made it. And this happened to be the 1000th Norwegian gold in a World Championship ever.
“It’s nice with the 1000th gold, but it mean a lots more for me that I become world champion”, he says.
Moholdt was introduced to ski orienteering when he was a final-year junior. “My club-mate Øystein Kvaal Østerbø introduced me to the sport”. He quickly became hooked.
Earlier in his junior years he had medals from Norwegian championships in both orienteering and cross-country skiing. “Tommy Olsen (former national coach) has also been important for me. He trusted in me and gave me places on the national team even when I hadn’t such good results. He saw some potential in me”. He has now for some years been one of the very best. “Now I am good enough to win. Finally!”
He has year by year improved his physical strength and has developed more and more routine. On the Long Distance he had a very great race. “I didn’t make any mistakes, but I was very tired in the end”.
