Sweden took five of the nine gold medals on offer this week, with Tove Alexandersson claiming a personal tally of three. But Russia won more medals overall – eleven compared to Sweden’s seven, counting team medals as one.

Russia took gold in both women’s and men’s relays today, ending the Championships on a high note after some disappointments earlier in the week. The Swedish women’s team were unable to compete because of illness. Silver medals went to Finland and Sweden and bronze to the Czech Republic and Finland.

Mariya Kechkina, Russia was on absolutely top form today, winning by almost 5 minutes, with the home country taking the first four places in the women’s race. Erik Rost, Sweden took his second gold medal of the Championships with victory by more than 1 minute.

The last starter won the men’s Middle race today, just as happened in the men’s Sprint. This time it was the Bulgarian Stanimir Belomazhev who took the gold, 15 seconds faster than Erik Rost, Sweden.
09/03/2017 || WSOC: Another gold for Alexandersson ||Arena, News||
Tove Alexandersson, Sweden enjoyed another almost error-free race over Middle Distance today, on a technically and physically challenging course in good skiing conditions. She took the gold medal by more than 1½ minutes over Polina Frolova, Russia.
