IOF Foot Orienteering World Cup 2013 Special Rules are published and available on the IOF website. World Cup 2013 starts earlier than normally with the Opening Round in New Zealand early January.

21/07/2012 || World Orienteering Championships, men’s relay: Czech victory in sprint finish ||News||
The Czech Republic won the WOC men’s relay for the first time ever today when Jan Prochazka proved the strongest in a three-man sprint finish. Silver went to Norway and bronze to Sweden, all three teams finishing within 11 seconds.

The women’s relay title went to Switzerland today following a commanding performance from Simone Niggli on the last leg. Sweden took the silver medals and Norway the bronze.

IOF Council has appointed Mikko Salonen, Finland as new Chair of the FootO Commission to replace Konrad Becker, Switzerland, who has retired from the post.

The IOF has now 73 members. At the General Assembly Montenegro and Cyprus were accepted as new members of IOF. The 2016 World Orienteering Championships were awarded to Sweden, the only applicant, and Sweden will also hold the World Trail Orienteering Championships as an integral part of WOC. Norway will organise the 2015 World Ski Orienteering Championships.

A big part of the General Assembly today was taken up with discussion of the future model for the World Orienteering Championships. Four proposals had been put forward, three of them based upon the current model but with variations, the other proposing a ‘forest’ WOC and an ‘urban’ WOC in alternate years.

At the 2012 IOF General Assembly today, Brian Porteous, Great Britain has been elected IOF President for the coming 2-year Congress period. He takes the place of Åke Jacobson, Sweden who has retired from the post today.
