At the end of day 1 of the World Trail Orienteering Championships, just a few seconds at the timed controls separated the top placings in both the Paralympic and Open classes.
16/08/2011 || Daniel Hubmann takes men’s sprint title ||News||
One of the world’s great sprint specialists, Daniel Hubmann, Switzerland, took the gold medal in very convincing fashion in today’s men’s sprint final. Sweden took their fourth medal today with the silver for Anders Holmberg, and bronze went to another of the very strong Swiss team, Matthias Mueller.

In an intensely exciting women’s sprint final in the centre of Chambery, Sweden took all three medals, continuing the superb form shown earlier in the season.

Runners from twenty-nine nations have qualified for this afternoon’s sprint finals in Chambery. The weather for the finals is perfect – little wind, almost clear skies and temperature in the high 20’s.

The 28th World Orienteering Championships and the 8th World Trail Orienteering Championships were declared open by IOF President Åke Jacobson at a colourful Opening Ceremony in the outdoor Theatre de Verdure in the centre of Aix-les-Bains today.

Switzerland has as their goal a total of three medals for women and men this year. Last year Switzerland was the best nation.

Almost 50 athletes and coaches from 12 of the IOF’s younger and less developed nations are taking part in a Development Clinic in conjunction with the World Championships, part-funded and supported by the French government and orienteering federation in recognition of the IOF’s 50th anniversary.
15/08/2011 || Middle distance qualification: only 4 nations get 100% success ||News||
Only three nations – France, Sweden and Switzerland – achieved 100% success in the middle distance qualification races yesterday, with all their runners qualifying for the finals.
