Tove Alexandersson wins gold medal with 35 second margin

At last she has won a World Championships gold medal! Tove Alexandersson had a near-faultless run today on the challenging Middle Distance course at Tanum and beat Heidi Bagstevold, Norway by 35 seconds.
Tove was the very last starter and was close to fastest on almost every section, pulling away with her extra strength and speed towards the end. She could afford to slacken off on the final run-in and savour the applause from the big home crowd.
Bronze medal went to Natalia Gemperle, Russia, who was 3 seconds slower than Bagstevold. Canada had its best-ever WOC performance courtesy of Emily Kemp, who ran strongly and accurately almost throughout but took a slow path route on a leg in the last loop when it was faster to run direct. As a result she ended 15 seconds away from a medal position.
Double gold medallist Maja Alm led at the finish for quite some time and was in fifth place at the end.
Ida Bobach made a big mistake early on and was never in contention, and Helena Jansson finished with an injury to her right foot that could well mean the end to her Championship week.
