Russian double in MTBO Long Distance

Gold medallists in the World MTB Orienteering Championships Long Distance race in Supraśl, Poland today were the Russian riders Olga Vinogradova and Anton Foliforov. The bronze medal went to Denmark in the women’s race and France had two top-six placings in the men’s.
The women’s race was a close fight between two Russians, and the more experienced Olga Vinogradova finished 20 seconds quicker than the younger Svetlana Poverina. Camilla Søgaard, Denmark was third, 3.13 down on the winning time.
Anton Foliforov is the only rider to have won a medal in all three individual formats. He was joint first in the Sprint, bronze medallist in the Middle race and today he won by a convincing 1.44 ahead of Baptiste Fuchs, France. Jiri Hradil, Czech Republic was bronze medallist today, 2.04 down on Foliforov’s time, following his silver medal position in the Middle race.
The junior Long Distance races were both won by quite big margins. Ruska Saarela, Finland won the women’s race by 4.42 and Andreas Waldmann, Austria was victorious in the men’s by the very impressive margin of 6.47.
Tomorrow the final race, the relay, will be held on the northern edge of Bialystok.
