Tove Alexandersson, Sweden and Matthias Kyburz, Switzerland ran out winners of an intense Sprint final in Wellington, where getting the route choices right was the key to success. Lizzie Ingham achieved the best-ever New Zealand women’s international result with third place.

Qualification for the second World Cup race of the season, a Sprint, took place today. Runners faced very detailed urban terrain around the parliament buildings in Wellington. Winners, and therefore last to start in the final tomorrow, were Tove Alexandersson, Sweden and Fabian Hertner, Switzerland.

Helena Jansson, Sweden and Fabian Hertner, Switzerland won the first event in the 2013 World Cup, over Middle distance on very technical open beach sand-dune terrain on a hot and sunny day in New Zealand. The Swedish team had a very good day overall, with 5 runners among the fastest 11 in both races.

The European Championships in Latvia in February and the World Championships in Kazakhstan in March will be the peak points of the season for all of the world’s elite ski orienteers. But the international season starts this weekend with a 7-event ‘SkiO Tour’ in France, Italy and Switzerland.

The organiser of the Junior World Orienteering Championships 2013 in Hradec Králové, Czech Republic, has decided to give a free entry to the first three national teams to register from countries that did not take part this year.

The organisers of the World Masters Orienteering Championships 2013 have published a new template for the medical certificate that all competitors need to have with them to Italy.
14/12/2012 || Proposed system for allocating WMTBOC long distance start slots ||News||
The IOF Council decided in its October meeting to remove the Long distance qualification event from the World MTB Orienteering Championships programme and to replace it by an allocation of start slots to federations. The IOF MTB Orienteering Commission has now prepared a model proposal for the allocation of start slots. The proposal has been sent to all national federations for hearing.
