Olav Lundanes: “My best performance”
Posted on | July 19, 2012 | Category: Arena
Olav Lundanes took a very convincing victory today, and believes this performance is better than the last time he won WOC gold. Now he has won the Long distance title twice.
“This victory comes in a terrain I have not grown up in”, he says.
The 24-year-old Norwegian won the same distance in WOC in Trondheim two years ago. That time he ran in a terrain he has known since birth. “But emotionally, the victory two years ago was a bit bigger”, he says.
The Norwegian is from Ålesund in the western part of Norway. There isn’t any big orienteering club there, but Olav’s family has always been very enthusiastic and has travelled a lot, and Olav soon became one of the best in Norway in his age group. His home club is Emblem and activity there is growing a lot. Now he lives in Halden, where he is doing orienteering full time, something he has done for some years.
Earlier this year he won two gold medals at the European Championships.
For Norway it was a big day with the first medal. The Norwegians want to be one of the best nations in the world, but hadn’t had any among the six best before the Long distance race today.
