Two closely fought relay races were won on the last leg in both cases by Denmark’s women and Russia’s men in the final event of the 2012 Championships today.
In the women’s race the fastest last leg of the day was run by Emma Klingenberg, who passed Sweden’s Tove Alexandersson, double individual world champion, to take the gold medals for Denmark by 15 seconds. There was then a gap of almost 3 minutes before the Swiss team came in to take the bronze medals.
In the men’s race it was Russia’s Gleb Tikhonov, Sprint gold medallist, who had the decisive run, pulling the team up from 3rd place on the final leg. Norway was leading at the end of the second, but finished third behind Denmark, where Marius Thrane Ödum also ran a fine last leg to come up from 5th place.
