The Long distance silver medallist, Marius Thrane Ødum, Denmark, was winner of his heat by 22 seconds. The surprise name amongst the heat winners was Luís Silva from Portugal, who was 23 seconds faster than anyone else in his heat. He was placed 77th in the Sprint, so this was a very big day for him.
