Slowing down paid off in the end

On the long distance Eskil Kinneberg had to slow down his speed in many places, but he will still be the one standing on the highest podium in the prize giving ceremony.

When the last starters of the five-hour long starting list were out in the forest there was thunder and rain. It was very difficult to read the map under the big trees in the forest.

“I had to stop up and read the map”, Eskil says.

– Didn’t you get stressed of using so much time on the map?

“No, it was the same for everybody at that time and all the best started among the latest starters”, he says.

A clear goal

The Norwegian who was by the way born on the Norwegian national day has for years showed an incredible talent. Two years ago he ran a great leg in the Junior World Championships relay in Denmark when Norway took the gold. At the same championships he was fourth on the long distance that was his best individual performance before this years championships. This years events started with bronze in the sprint.

“On the long distance my goal was to win”, says Eskil.

Faster and faster

The last year junior didn’t ran full speed from start but was still leading from the beginning. Later in the race he speeded up.

“It was a very good race. I had no problems. When it was open land it wasn’t a problem to read the map and I could run full speed”, he says.
