Niggli and Lundanes head World Cup standings

With 5 of the 13 races in this year’s World Cup programme now completed, Simone Niggli, Switzerland and Olav Lundanes, Norway are the leaders in the World Cup standings.
Simone Niggli is clearly in a class of her own this year, with none of the other top women able to reach her level of performance and consistency. She has the maximum 500 points at this stage after winning all the races so far, with her closest challengers, Tatyana Riabkina (Russia) and Minna Kauppi (Finland) having 221 and 220 points respectively.
Olav Lundanes has shown impressive form with two European Championship gold medals and several other very good results in this European spring. He is followed in the list by the strongest in the Swiss team this year – Matthias Kyburz and Matthias Merz – in the absence through injury of Daniel Hubmann. Jerker Lysell (Sweden), with third and first place in the two Sprint races so far, is fourth in the standings.
The next races counting for World Cup points are the three individual finals at the World Championships at Lausanne, Switzerland on 14th, 17th and 19th July.
