MTB Orienteering World Cup: Double Russian victory at Middle distance

Russians Ksenia Chernykh and Anton Foliforov took their first World Cup victories of the season in the Middle distance race in Poland today. Chernykh won by an impressive 51 seconds over yesterday’s winner and World Cup standings leader Marika Hara, Finland.
In the women’s race five nations were represented on the podium, only Switzerland having two riders there. The first of these was Christine Schaffner-Raeber who took third place, 1.39 down on the winner, and Maja Rothweiler was sixth. Swedish and Czech Republic colours were also present.
The men’s race was a very close-run affair with only 9 seconds separating the first three in the results list. Jussi Laurila, Finland took second place for the second day running, missing out this time by 7 seconds. Two seconds slower than him was another Finn, Pekka Niemi. Yesterday’s winner Luca Dallavalle, Italy was in 6th place today.

This round of the World Cup ends tomorrow with a Long Distance race with mass start in a ‘one-man-relay’ format.
