Swedes take top two spots in Sprint

The Final Round of Ski Orienteering World Cup 2012 started today with Sprint in Boden, Sweden.
Erik Rost, third in the World Cup standings after three Rounds, won the men’s race 2 seconds before his compatriot Peter Arnesson. Stanimir Belomazhev, Bulgaria, was leading the race at the radio control half way through the course with Erik Rost second and Arnesson third. The top three were neck to neck at the prewarning but in the end the Swedes managed to beat Belomazhev with around 10 seconds.
In women’s class, Tove Alexandersson continued her strong performance this year taking yet another victory. Sweden’s Josefine Engström and Russia’s Polina Malchikova battled for second place but Engström finally topped Malchikova by 2 seconds. Second at the radio control, Marte Renaas, Norway, had to settle for fourth place.
Ski Orienteering World Cup Round 4 continues tomorrow with Relay.
