Representatives from a record 45 nations attended the Presidents’ Conference – a meeting held every alternate year, between IOF Congress years, at the World Orienteering Championships.
A keynote speech entitled ‘The World of Sports’ was given by Mr Jan Fransoo, President of ARISF and Vice President of Sport Accord.
The meeting discussed future strategic plans for the IOF and possible changes to the race programme for the World Orienteering Championships. Proposals for the latter will be put to next year’s IOF General Assembly, held in conjunction with the World Orienteering Championships in Lausanne, Switzerland in mid-July 2012.
IOF President Åke Jacobson, ARISF President Jan Fransoo, and past IOF Presidents Sue Harvey (IOF President 1994-2004), Heinz Tschudin (IOF President 1988-1994) and Bengt Saltin (IOF President 1982-1988) donated each a compass to the IOF Compass Project.
A commemorative issue of the Orienteering World was launched at the Presidents’ Conference.
