Men’s long distance final: emphatic victory for Gueorgiou

The huge army of French supporters had plenty to cheer about in the men’s long distance final: French hero Thierry Gueorgiou won by 4 minutes 27 seconds and the bronze medallist was his compatriot Francois Gogon. The silver medal went to Pasi Ikonen, Finland.
The race was one of the longest-ever long distance finals, with only 10 runners finishing the 15.9 km course in less than 2 hours in the hot weather and slow forest with lots of branches and rocky terrain.
Gueorgiou has now won World Championship gold medals in all 3 individual formats, and lacks only a relay gold in a World Championships. He has 1 sprint, 1 long distance and 6 middle distance gold medals.
