One of the world’s great sprint specialists, Daniel Hubmann, Switzerland, took the gold medal in very convincing fashion in today’s men’s sprint final. Sweden took their fourth medal today with the silver for Anders Holmberg, and bronze went to another of the very strong Swiss team, Matthias Mueller.
In the narrow streets and alleys of Chambery, Daniel Hubmann had a near-perfect run, and clearly enjoyed the huge crowds watching in and around one of the town’s central squares.
Fourth place went to Graham Gristwood, Great Britain, who was leading for a large part of the race. Fifth was the Romanian Ionut Zinca, and in sixth place was a third Swiss, Matthias Merz.
Full results can be seen on the Championships website www.woc2011.fr. The Championships continue tomorrow with the long distance final and day 2 of the Trail Orienteering Championships.
More reports and pictures will appear later in the day in the Around the Arena section further down this page.
