This time on the centre spot of the podium

Galina Vinogradova finished second in the Knock-Out sprint in Stockholm last year. This time she was mostly running in the front for the latter half of the course. She did not plan to be so aggressive but closer to the finish she felt she had what it takes to win. “On the second last control I understood that I was on my way to victory”, she says.
Enjoying life in Halden
In the beginning of this year Galina moved with her family, Mike Vinogradov and their 4-year-old daughter Anna, to Halden. Galina thinks that moving has brought some positive changes: “In Halden there’s not as much snow during winter time. I spend more time out in the terrain”, she says.
The past few days have been one big celebration for the family: first Halden won in Jukola with Mike as the club’s coach and now Galina took her first World Cup victory in the Knock-Out sprint in Gothenburg.
Galina’s World Championships programme still partly open
At the World Orienteering Championships in France Galina will take part in the Sprint and Relay races. She may also compete in the Long distance but the team has not been selected yet.
Do you now aim at winning a gold medal at the World Championships?
“No, the goal is to have good races”, the Russian smiles.
