Jerker strongest of the sprinters

Jerker Lysell got his first World Cup victory in Gothenburg.

Jerker Lysell felt strong during the super final at the World Cup race in central Gothenburg. “I was in front already at the first three controls and speeded down a bit some places just to save energy”, he comments.
Last year the 22-year-old Swede was second in the Knock-Out sprint in Stockholm. Now he stepped up his game and won his first World Cup race. The other five men in the final included Daniel Hubmann, Matthias Kyburz and Matthias Merz from Switzerland, Scott Fraser from Great Britain and Frederic Tranchand representing France. Hubmann and Jerker were leading the group for the most part – Jerker in the beginning of the race and Hubmann a bit later on. “I let him come in front and do some work”, Jerker comments his tactics.
Jerker was already waving his hand on the way to the finish on Götaplatsen at the city’s main street Avenyn. He had a big enough gap to Hubmann to be sure that a victory was on the way.
Would you say a gold medal from France is your next goal?
“That’s a different sprint with individual start, but now I gained some more self-confidence, says Lysell.
Norway next up
The final race of the first round of World Cup is in Nesodden, close to Oslo. The start will be based on results from the two previous World Cup races. Daniel Hubmann is leading his three teammates, Matthias Kyburz, Merz and Müller. Olav Lundanes (NOR) on fifth place is the first non-Swiss athlete, only 65 seconds after Hubmann.
