2005 Junior World Championships: Middle Final – Pre-race Favourite Hertner Sweeps to Victory
Posted on | July 13, 2005 | Category: News
Fabian Hertner, Switzerland stormed round the course in today’s middle distance Final to take victory by 1m 15s over Frenchman Philippe Adamski. Hertner, 7th at long distance in last year’s JWOC, was regarded as the favourite to take the title and he achieved this in fine style. The bronze medal went to the Finnish runner Hannu Airila.
In the women’s class it was Sweden’s Anna Persson who claimed the gold medal, winning by 9 seconds over Heini Wennman, Finland. Persson was placed 8th and 10th in last year’s JWOC individual races, so a medal was in her sights this year and she will be ecstatic over her result. Hanny Allston, Australia, so impressive in qualification yesterday, took the bronze medal, and the 2004 middle distance winner Helen Jansson was 4th. Finland achieved 3 podium places.
Tomorrow the long distance individual race takes place.
