Erik Rost, Sweden, proved beyond doubt that his pre-Championships training had been optimal by winning his second gold medal today in the long distance race, over a gruelling 10.6 km with 400 metres of climb, on the alpine slopes around S-chanf, Switzerland. Yesterday he won the sprint race. Today’s victory was by 24 seconds ahead of the Russian Alexey Kozhemiakin. A second Russian, Andrey Lamov, took the bronze medal.

Swedish flags were also highest on the flower ceremony podium after the women’s race, where the gold medal went to Eva Svensson. She was 30 seconds faster on the 8.8 km/300 metre climb course than two Russians, Olga Novikova and Anastasia Kravchenko, who both collect silver medals. For Kravchenko this was the second silver medal in two days.
Nina Olenichenova, Russia and Stanimir Belomazhev, Bulgaria were today’s winners in the W17 and M17 classes.
