Posted on | January 25, 2005 | Category: News
Erik Rost, Sweden and Tatiana Kozlova, Russia were the first gold medal winners in the 2005 Junior World Ski Orienteering Championships being held in S-chanf, in the Engadin valley, Switzerland this week.
Rost’s win was by just 3 seconds ahead of the Russian Stanislav Cheha, with another Swede, Gustav Hall, taking the bronze medal a further 14 seconds behind. Kozlova enjoyed a more convincing victory, finishing 29 seconds faster than her compatriot Anastasia Kravchenko. A third Russian, Alena Trapeznikova, took the bronze medal, another 11 seconds down. There was then a gap of more than one minute – unusual in a sprint race – to the fourth-placed finisher, Emma Olofsson of Sweden. Full results can be seen on the event website, best accessed directly from the home page of the IOF website, www.orienteering.org.
This was the first-ever sprint race in the Junior World Championships, a good start to an intensive week of competition.
