European Ski Orienteering Championships: Marte Reenaas – Wonderful to win on home ground

Marte Reenaas was very happy after winning the gold on the middle distance. It was achieved just 15 kilometres from where she has grown up.
“On the two first distances at these championships I was maybe more affected by being so near home than I expected”, she says. The Norwegian leader of the IOF World Rankings ended fourth on the first individual distances. She made some mistakes and couldn’t find her best rhythm. “On the middle distance I was mostly alone and it was good to be alone. Then I could concentrate on my orienteering and I managed to do my best. It was so good to find that I could orienteer well again”, Marte smiles.
The strong skier finished with a flag in her arms. She was a European Champion at the last championships too, but this time it is a bit different. “This is the best individual gold I have taken”, she smiles.
