1000 spectators at orienteering event in salt mine in Romania

Olt Cup 2017 was the first orienteering competition held in Romania this year. The competition was named the “First challenge” of 2017, and took place in a very special venue: a salt mine. The competition had almost 300 participants, but perhaps most notable was the number of spectators, which was almost 1000.
The event was organised by Sport Club Ecosport Rm. Valcea in partnership with Salina Ocnele Mari and the National Organization of Romanian Scouts, under Romanian Orienteering Federation patronage.
The race took place in Salina Ocnele Mari, an area of approximately 0,5 square kilometers designated to tourism, located inside a working salt mine. It has been compared to a small village, and hosts a restaurant, a cinema, a wine cellar, a coffee shop, some sport areas (handball, volleyball, tennis, mini-football), toilets, showers and changing rooms.
