Top place on the podium – this time after the Long Distance race

Every day in every week, Judith Wyder thinks about what it is best to do. She hasn’t had back problems for a while, is doing incredibly well, and is now facing a very important decision.
In the spring, Wyder won the Sprint at the European Championships. Now she is back on top of the podium. The margin on the Long Distance in Aarau was really impressive, more than two minutes and two seconds. In the Sprint in central Aarau today she won once more with an incredible margin. It was 31 seconds down to Maja Alm.
“My level? It’s good now, but I also had a very good level in 2014,” the Swiss star says.
At WOC in Sweden this year she got silver in the Sprint and Sprint Relay. Two years ago she won three golds at the European Championships in Portugal and three golds at WOC. Also at WOC in 2012 she got one gold.
Last year’s World Championships was destroyed by big pains in her back.
The missing plan
The 28-year-old athlete hasn’t yet decided how the future with her sport will be. “I have to see how my motivation is, and make a choice after the season,” she says.
– Can you really stop after such a weekend?
“No comment,” she smiles. “I have to think and take a decision.”
The good back
Judith’s back has been fine, both at WOC and now. Hard work has given results.
“I am running about 100 kilometres a week, but I do a lot of alternative training together with the running. I am also doing a lot of strength training and other kinds of training for my back. I have learnt what to do. I think I will do this kind of training all my life.”
Back at home
From the beginning of the year until WOC she lived in Gothenburg. “It was a good time in Sweden, but it’s also good to be back. Home is home,” she smiles.
Judith lives in Bern, about 65 kilometres from Aarau where the last round of the World Cup was held. In December she will start normal work again. The question is how much it will be. In recent years it has been part-time, to give time to sport.
