Open meetings at WOC

It’s not just the athletes who will be busy in Strömstad 20-27 August. There are lots of important meetings and interesting seminars going on throughout the week, many of which are open to the public. During orienteering’s biggest week of the year, anyone who is interested in orienteering should find something to interest them.
The first ever Global Development Conference is the first of these meetings. This is a golden opportunity for networking between people who are interested in the development of orienteering, on all levels around the world. The focus is on increasing participation of different groups, especially youth. The conference is open to everyone who wishes to take part, so make sure you don’t miss this exciting chance! For those interested in the rules that make up our sport, the Rules Harmonisation Seminar is a must. It focuses on the harmonisation of rules across the four disciplines, and how to improve the usability of rules and guidelines. Link to invitation.

The 17th International Conference on Orienteering Mapping will surely be a highlight for those of us who love maps. You can look forward to interesting presentations and discussions on topics such as generalisation, the application of LIDAR data, surveying techniques and software for orienteering mapping. Finally, the IOF IT Commission will organise an open technology meeting. The meeting will be a gathering of technology savvy orienteers for presentations and discussions about relevant technology – timekeeping, GPS, analysis, hardware, software etc. Don’t miss this chance to learn about the technology at the forefront of the development of orienteering!
