For Alessio Tenani, the gold in the first ever relay in an international championship in TrailO is a gold with double feelings. In some ways, he had wanted to be on a different team.
Alessio is also very good at foot orienteering, and has run a lot of international championships. In fact, the main goal this time in the Czech Republic was to take part in EOC.
– The Sprint would have suited me well, he says.
Really the best
Well, it can also be said that the TrailO Relay suited him and his team-mates very well. Alessio, Michele and Remo won gold with a good margin.
– We had a gap already before the last part and secured the win, they say and smile. They are of course very glad for the victory.
– I’m glad for the gold, but I have also a little bit double feelings when EOC had been the biggest goal.
The smart talks
The Italians think that what happened at the model event before the competition was very important.
– We understood how it would be and talked a lot of tactics and strategy in the team and how to approach the challenges, Remo Madella says.
Even though they seemed very experienced, they haven’t been doing the sport for very long. Alessio (36) started with it just two years ago. He lives in Bologna. Michele Cera, the youngster in the team at just 31 years old, has only been doing TrailO for four years. He is from Vicenza. Remo Madella (45) from Milano is the most experienced in the team, with eight years’ experience.
Ready for a repeat
The three are going for a repeat performance at WTOC in Strömstad.
– We can’t be sure we are in the team again, but it looks good, they say.
– You are going on with TrailO, Alessio?
– I think it will be hard to be selected for the WOC team, and it’s too complicated to take part in both games.
