Norway’s best moved on

The best Norwegians in the first race of the World Cup didn’t take part in the second one. For them it was a short trip to Poland. Now they are preparing for new goals.
Olav Lundanes won, Carl Godager Kaas was second and Magne Dæhli was sixth in the Middle Distance curtain-raiser of the World Cup, in Sobotka in Poland. All the Norwegians arrived on Thursday. The three best left the Norwegian team on Sunday morning and travelled to the neighbouring country, the Czech Republic.
“A flat sprint is not the best for me. It wouldn’t have been possible to get many points. I’m not so keen on sprint either. So I wanted to prepare for the European Championships”, Lundanes says.
“Maybe my first sprint this year will be the final race in the World Cup”, Magne Dæhli tells. “But I hope anyway to collect so many points from the forest that I have the chance of a good overall result”. Last year Dæhli was fifth overall.
In the race on Saturday the winner had two small mistakes, about 30 seconds on each. He isn’t so satisfied with that. Lundanes wants to run clean.
– Will you avoid all mistakes at EOC, with the camp in these days?
“I hope so”, he smiles.
First on the coming Friday will the three Norwegians leave the EOC country. During the five days there they will have nine training sessions in the forest.
For Norway it was an extraordinary start to the World Cup, with four men among the seven best. National head coach Kenneth Buch says that is the best team result he has had so far. It was not really expected, for the Norwegians are concentrating most on the coming WOC which is in Sweden, very close to the border with Norway.
