The students are ready for the World University Championships

The first ever World University Ski Orienteering Championships starts tomorrow in Tula, Russia.
Competition programme
11 January – Sprint
12 January – Pursuit
13 January – Rest day, cultural excursion
14 January – Mixed relay
15 January – Middle Mass start
The competition area is located around the town of Aleksin in the Tula region, south of Moscow. The competition terrain is full of gullies and abrupt ravines of different depths, and the forest is mixed, with a dense underbrush. There is a well developed network of roads, trails and glades, and there is a snow cover of fifteen to thirty centimetres.
Over sixty athletes from thirteen different countries are entered. Notably, Japan is the third biggest team, with eight athletes, just behind Finland, eleven, and host country Russia, twelve. All participants must be students, aged 17 to 28, who are currently working toward a degree or a diploma at University level.
