World MTBO Championships: Middle Distance golds to France and Russia
Posted on | August 18, 2015 | Category: News

Just as they did in the European MTBO Championships, Gaelle Barlet, France and Anton Foliforov, Russia took the gold medals in the WMTBOC Middle Distance race held today at Liberec in the Czech Republic.
Gaelle Barlet had a slightly more comfortable win this time – by 24 seconds instead of 7 seconds. The silver medal went to home rider Martina Tichovska, who led for a considerable part of the 8.8 km course but had two slow legs towards the end, and the bronze to Emily Benham, Great Britain who was 34 seconds down on the winner.
Anton Foliforov, winner at both Middle and Long distances in the European event, was closely followed time-wise by Luca Dallavalle, Italy, only 5 seconds slower. Dallavalle had led for most of the race but crucially lost more than 30 seconds on the very final short leg to the last control on the 11.4 km course. Marek Pospisek on home ground took the bronze, 1-04 down on Foliforov’s time. Russia had three athletes in the first six in the results.
Gold medalists in the Junior WMTBOC at this distance are Alena Fedoseeva, Russia and Oskar Sandberg, Sweden.
Tomorrow the Sprint competition takes place. Full details and all results can be found on the event website www.wmtboc2015.cz.
