Felt pain, just ran, took gold

In March Ida Bobach got rid of her injuries, but in the last couple of days before the Long at WOC she was again a little unfit.
Already in France in 2011, as a last year junior, Ida Bobach took her first WOC medal as a senior. As a junior she’s the athlete with the most JWOC gold medals. On Wednesday she was in the winning relay team. And in the Long Distance she ran an incredible race both technically and physically.
“It’s crazy nice with the gold!”, she says. The difference to number two, Mari Fasting from Norway, was 2.44 minutes. “I used time to find good route choices and the best places to run”.

Ida has struggled as a senior with injury and has had to do a lot of alternative training, but in the last four–five months the training has gone very well and the Dane has had no problems for a very long time. But just two days ago she again felt her Achilles.
– Where you thinking about not starting in the Long because of your Achilles?
“Not at all”, she smiles. “I was thinking that’s there is a long time to recover after the race, if I should feel it more”. She felt the Achilles a bit in the warm-up, but it was out of her mind in the race which went just perfectly. The terrain was certainly not Danish at all, with soft ground and also much more hilly than in most parts of Denmark. “During recent months we have had a lot of good training camps in terrain similar to this terrain, like in Sweden and Norway”.
In Silkeborg where she has grown up it is also very hilly compared to most of Denmark. Now she lives in Århus.
One year ago Ida’s brother Søren Bobach won the Sprint. Earlier in this week they both won a Relay gold. Søren was in the winning Sprint Relay team from Denmark. Ida ran the second leg for the forest Relay winning team.
For the Nordic country it was the best ever WOC with four golds. Thus they took almost half of the total of nine gold medals that were awarded in Inverness.
